This website is Dedicated to my father, Clarence "Jack" Self; Helen Bankston Self, his mother; and her parents; Levi Harrison Self and Dorcas Myrrah Bankston Self. The Self/Bankston families were very close. The ties between the families dates back to before Louisiana became a state. There were many marriages between Bankston/Self couples dating back to when the Selfs first arrived in Mississippi just accross what is now the Louisiana state line. The bond between the two families was as much about blood; as friendship. My father loved telling us about both families . He was proud to be a member of two of America's greatest families.
